Your tour will start at the agreed pick-up location. After a short drive through Oneroa village, we leave the main road and take a scenic route with wonderful views across the Hauraki Gulf and Palm Beach.
The serene cascades walk typically takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, commencing from the car park along the Nīkau Track. This trail meanders through lushes native bush, teeming with native bird species like kererū (wood pigeon), kākā (parrot), pīwakawaka (NZ fantail), weka (flightless rail), riroriro (grey warbler) and, of course, our noisy tūī.
Whakanewha Regional Park boasts a vibrant coastal forest featuring taraire, kohekohe, and ancient kanukā trees, accompanied by a sweeping beach and enchanting bush walks. The wetland area by the beach serves as a habitat for rare bird species, including the banded rail, spotless crake, and the New Zealand dotterel.
For this tour, we recommend taking a break for lunch at the lovely Batch Winery. It is conveniently situated just above Whakenewha at the end of the walk and has the highest altitude vineyard on Waiheke.
This well-positioned vineyard not only boasts fantastic wine and food but also spectacular views across the island to Auckland in the distance. We also recommend their signature ‘High Tea’ consisting of three tiers off New Zealand vintage dishes.
No visit to Waiheke would be complete without witnessing one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. With views of Great Barrier and Little Barrier Island in the distance, Onetangi Bay has over 1.5 km of beautiful golden sand. We recommend being dropped at one end to stroll the beach and meet your guide further down the beach.
Tantalus Estate boasts some of the best wines and menu items on the island; their reserve range is a force to be reckoned with. Situated in flourishing gardens, teamed with luxurious interior design Tantalus provides an experience to remember.
Head down below, and you will arrive at the Alibi Brewing lounge. They are known for Creative Cocktails, Delicious Dishes, Genuine Vibes, and Craft Beer. The moody and secretive Alibi Brewer’s Lounge is reminiscent of a speakeasy from the Prohibition era and gives guests a sneak preview of the brewery.
Depending on the time available we may return to Oneroa Village before heading back to the ferry terminal, your accommodation or another agreed drop-off location.
